Our hope lies lost and torn
Hope
An unimaginably powerful individual known as the Wizard hosts a yearly event on an island with a promise to destroy the world if not entertained. Twelve souls, chosen at random, are granted the abilities of Knights and must stand against a villain who cannot be killed, knowing they're only buying a single year of safety. The Princess will join alongside them as the host of the Protector, a spirit who sides with the forces of good, to suppress the Wizard.
The Wizard has always lost. The Wizard must be defeated again. Who will be chosen this year? With no way to know, the world can only watch with held breath to know its fate this year.
Premise
Hope is a small plot-driven roleplay that brings heroes together to stand off against evil. Thirteen players will make up twelve knights and one princess who will face off against twelve monsters and the Wizard. The 'DM' will play as the Protector, the Wizard, and the monsters the knights must face.
The story will play out over a series of chapters until it reaches its conclusion. Will the heroes triumph and defeat the Wizard or will the world be destroyed?
What is known
The Princess and the Protector are always on the side of good.
Eight Knights are always free to choose their allegiance.
Two Knights always feel a call to good and will learn who the Princess is immediately.
Two Knights always feel the allure of the Wizard's power and will be drawn to it.
The Wizard will always destroy the world if not stopped and cannot be convinced otherwise.

Interest
Because this is to be a small game, it will have to be driven by its players until it reaches its conclusion. A dedicated Discord server will be made to assist with coordination and plotting. This server will have both public and private channels, public to be used for building CR (character relationships) and private to plot ideas if needed.
It will only be known to the DM which Knights are good-aligned or evil-allured, however interested players can reach out to the DM privately to opt out of these Knight options before they are chosen. It will be known only to the players chosen what their alignment is, but discovery during the course of the roleplay is welcome and encouraged.
I, Skye, will be the DM. This will not be a public game and those involved are folks who have my personal thumbs-up. (i.e. If you're reading this, that's you!)

Home Continent: earthquachipelago, which if no one has a better idea I'm naming Tellan
Character History: Terrence is a mascot. Both figuratively and literally - his family owned their business before they even planned for a child, and upon having one decided to have him genetically engineered into the most obvious idea for a universal symbol of "breeding" possible - a rabbit. Every facet of his life up until adulthood was carefully controlled, training him in exactly what would be the best thing to do/say/etc. in any given situation to represent the company. He certainly wasn't abused or anything - far from it, really, with his parents fawning over him to ridiculous degreed both privately and publically.
No, Terrence was a model employee for his entire life up until now. IF anything, he was too much of one, with both him and his own family sort of assuming that no one as already 'special' and 'important' as him would be chosen as a knight...
Personality: Terrence's entire personality is marked by duality - one borne of necessity from his position both within a noble family and eventually as the owner of an extremely public business. To anyone who could possibly haveeven the slightest of ties to the media (which is to say, literally everyone in the internet age) he is the definition of poise and grace - never forgetting a pleasantry, acknowledging even the help on each shoot, remaining pleasant and light even when business comes up, yet maintaining an air of authority no matter what.
This, of course, is a cover for a far more carefree identity that simply wants everyone to have the most fun possible, money be damned. He was literally created to be a living mascot of love and pleasure, but trained to be a businessman with a steel-trap mind, and the dichotomy is fairly plain to anyone who speaks to him outside of a business context for more than five minutes. Just as his animal "extras" betray his emotions, even he himself has a terrible poker face when examined for longer than the average press conference takes.
I mean, it's not like he of all kids would be picked as the next knight, right..?
Appearance: As a magitek-altered being, Terrence appears mostly human, with a few very notable exceptions. For a start, his skin is stark white, contrasting heavily with his jet black hair. A similarly dark fur covers the two rabbit-like ears protruding from the top of his head as well as his extremities, which end in larger "paw-like" hands and feet than normal. A characterisically cottony tail emerges from his lower back just above his behind as well.
These 'additions' reflect his mood accordingly, with the ears normally being "lop"-style and flopped down when he is calm but perking up when he is agitated or worried, with the tail likewise twitching in excitement/etc. Terrence is fairly tall (for a human in this fantasy world, at least), standing at 6'4" but maintaining a thin, "lanky" build that he is actually somewhat sensitive of and has his suits tailored specifically to hide.
His face is rather traditionally handsome, though with his eyes being solid black across the board (with no well-defined diffentiation between ris, pupil, and sclera since they are all black) he definitely gives off an unsettling vibe to some people, especially those who are not adept at reading his body language and think him to be somewhat stonefaced. Still, for anyone paying attention he very much wears his heart on his sleeve.
Generally he is seen wearing immaculate, expensive, well-tailored suits in either sheer white (matching his skin tone perfectly) or light pink. In both cases (and even when not wearing a suit), he is essentially never seen in public without an ornate, solid gold pocketwatch.
For people that absolutely need a visual, combine these two in your head.
Abilities or Equipment: Even outside of his knighthood, Terrence has the following noteworthy traits:
* An above-average education, securing a Masters in Anthropology (GET IT) at a renowned school. In addition to his book learnin', guy is clearly pretty damn bright in all aspects.
* A lineage from a rather well-to-do family, securing not only considerable funding but also name recognition and existing allies of the family for himself.
* And I mean... He [i]does[/i] own one of the largest companies in the world - and one linked to a dating site/app at that!
* ...And conversely, he had more than a few ties to underground businesses/black markets.
* That solid gold pocketwatch... I mean, it's expensive and keeps time flawlessly, but is there something else to it..? (NOTE: IDK, up to Skye)
* His kemonomimi enchancements do offer him an improved sense of hearing and smell if nothing else. He's also a pretty good jumper, though they're still questioning if that has anything to do with the gene alterations or not...
In terms of his actual knighthood, Terrence's powers are as follows:
* Terrence's power is that of Exaggeration. He can exaggerate any single ability of anyone he touches, with the caveat that A) he must physically touch you for at least one full second (breaking contact before that cancels it), B) he must intentionally think of what is enhanced (so you can't just knock him out, sit on him, and get super strong), and C) some opposing 'weakness' must also be exaggerated (i.e., if he makes you super fast, you are also extra susceptible to damage until it wears off).
* In layman's terms, you get a short-term buff in exchange for a debuff. This is pretty flexible, though, and really just goes in terms of "exaggeration". For example, he can "exaggerate" your rest, which basically heals you to full in a shorter time, but during that time you fall deadass asleep and literally nothing can wake you no matter how painful/etc. until you're fully healed.

Character History:
Seth comes from rather humble origins. Born to two decently earning parents who would later separate due to their disagreement on how to raise Seth as he grew, leaving Seth living with his father.
Seth has always struggled with communicating, partially due to being mute. He learned sign-language of course, and has always had a phone with him at all times to use its text to speech function when needed. This got him to be object of frequent teasing or complaints in school, his classmates either trying to take his phone from him, or claim that the fact he was actually allowed to have it on him at all times and actually allowed to use it to an extent to be unfair. Though he tried to bring this to the attention of the teachers, nothing was ever really done about it. He never really understood the purpose of expressions as often the meaning of what was said to him was completely different from the expressions on the peoples faces as they told them.
This fact, amplified the fact that since a young age he spent most of his time fiddling and playing with dolls and puppets, reading, and otherwise by his lonesome have resulted in his ability to express himself visually via expressions to be very stunted at best and nonexistent at worst. He is more concerned by the meanings of things, be it words, or as time continued, flowers.
Aside from his keen interest in dolls and puppets, he came to be fascinated by the meanings given to flowers, and the language you could use by selecting the right flowers, all the way from hate to love to most things in between. And as such he poured a lot of time to researching them and learning about them until he could remember many of the meanings by heart.
Though he was never abused or mistreated per say by his parents, he never got that close to them, as his parents weren’t exactly enthusiastic of his hobby of playing with dolls and puppets, finding it strange, and when he started to make his own puppets to try and make himself less lonely, most people would deem them creepy and steer away from him, leaving him in a self-sustaining loop that ensured he would not truly learn how to express himself even in adulthood and stayed rather isolated. This was certainly not helped by the incident that happened when he had just moved out, getting attacked on his way home by some unruly teenagers who'd heard of his puppet hobby. This led to him staying home as much as possible, only going outside if absolutely necessary, becoming pretty much a shut in. The main reason for this was that he no longer felt safe outside, all to aware of the looks he got and the heckles he could hear behind his back.
Over the years he has made many, many dolls and puppets of various sizes, and has actually become rather famous on social media and on the internet for the quality of his creations, earning his living by making specifically commissioned dolls and puppets to other enthusiasts. He lives on his own with puppets of various sizes, each with their own characteristics and personalities, some of them even having their own social media accounts.
Still his wish of finding company remains unfulfilled, and now he has to be out in the open again...why couldn't he just remain inside with his puppet friends?
Personality:
Seth is rather shy and timid by nature, but friendly should you actually get to know him. Which, however, would take time as he is slow to warm up to others, and quite socially awkward as his communication skills are poor at best. He prefers to communicate via flower language with strangers, while using text to speech when he has to, or with people he’s more comfortable around. He, does however, also have a somewhat snarky and petty side, not one to let a slight go that easily, prone to bear grudges over the larger ones, realizing stress by complaining on social media. He is relatively quiet, even when ignoring the fact he’s mute, and prefers to be left to his own devices most of the time, though he still yearns to have company at the same time.
Appearance:
Seth is lean, and surprisingly fit due to moving his larger puppets around, pale skinned with curly black hair in a ponytail and blue-gray eyes. He wears most often turtlenecks and pretty skintight pants, outside adding on a light coat, a scarf and some rather stylish shoes and topping it off with a mailman’s cap. He’s always carrying around a bag that hold his belongings, including his phone and his tools to make puppets and dolls.
He’s decently handsome and medium tall, standing around at about 6 feet tall, or 183cm for most people, but incredibly hard to read due to his stunted expressions. Mostly walks with eyes cast to the ground.
Abilities or Equipment:
*Quite bright and intelligent, even though he is no genius.
*Knows sign-language, as well as flower language.
*Has practically mastered the art of creating dolls and puppets from scratch
*Skilled with his hands in general.

*Has a magitech device to store fresh flowers for when he wants to use them for communicating.

Knight Powers:
Seth’s power is Puppeteering. He can attach wires to inanimate things to control them, using this ability mostly with his puppets and dolls, however he can attach them to other things as well and even to things decently far away if nothing comes in the way, able to pull them towards himself. He can control either one very complex and large puppet, two complex and medium sized puppets, five small and simple puppets or 10 very small and extremely simple puppets at once, or a combination of those with the exception of the very complex and large puppet. While he cannot use his wires to control sentient or animate beings, he can still use them to bind them to try and restrict their movement, though the more force he uses the higher the chance of breaking his fingers is, so he uses it as mostly a last resort, someone is going to die if he doesn't type of thing.

Character History:
⬤ born to a regular pod and lived a regular wild elf life. That is, he was raised by a group of 6 or so adults and the various kids had among them, most of whom were siblings and half-siblings, all of whom were considered his family in wild elf terms. He was homeschooled until fantasy high school age when he was shipped off to public school where he floundered, struggling all the way up until getting his fantasy GED around 17 and dropping out. Being raised by anarchists and thrown into a highly constructed environment is Hard
⬤ was drawn away from his family by his eventual future husband. They were gay and indulgent in the woods for like a year or two. This is where he started picking up survival skills
⬤ met his husband's wife and settled with them. They picked up a second wife after a couple years and had 6 kids between the four of them
⬤ got drafted into the war where he fought for idk like four? years. This was basically hell for him because he had no particular loyalty to his country, didn’t want to kill people, and was truly awful at following directions. Again, being an anarchist in a highly constructed environment is Hard
⬤ then he was captured as a prisoner of war
⬤ then got Fuckin Executed by young stupid soldiers who wanted to show off how much they hated The Enemy. They cut his head off, and were only lightly censured for it when their SO found out
⬤ woke up as a ghost and just sorta angstily wandered around mourning his life until he got close to the anniversary of his death which is when he knew he'd be forced to move on
⬤ got all nervous instead and contracted with a wild elf death witch who made him his vessel and performed the ritual to bind him to it. This took almost a full year, but he returned to the world as a Geist
⬤ his marriage was broken by his death, so he took to the forests becoming intensely hermity. He was only really allowed around other wild elves for quick flings and during festivals, and had to watch his kids grow up from a respectful distance
⬤ over time, he became the friendly neighborhood zombie, bringing extra food to the various pods in his old territory
⬤ heard about the wizard but kinda hasn’t watched or paid attention to any of it. Sorta categorized the wizard as a force of God here to destroy the huge machines of war that the continents have become. He's good with it. He knows he’ll survive so he's good
Personality: Gyre is a man accustomed to loneliness. It is his primary sensation most of the time, and rather then letting that fact eat him up, he's learned to make it a part of himself. He speaks very little, and even when he does, it's very direct, getting to the point first and attending to the emotional tenor of the conversation second. This was partially trained into him as a young wild elf growing up in the anarchic territories of wild elf life. His emotions are his own, and he feels them deeply and fully when they come, but it's no one else's responsibility to help him handle himself. He shares himself when he feels inclined to but never expects sympathy or empathy returned, and he treats everyone else similarly. This can obviously come across as dismissive at best, and extremely callous and rude at worst. He's never been great at adapting to the less isolationist cultures of the world, but he's gotten very slightly less aggressive about it as he's gotten older.
Older and more traumatized. While he learned loneliness as a friend when he was young, he has spent over forty years in semi-exile from his culture, too stubborn to leave for a city that might take his geisthood better but not so stupid as to force his presence into spaces that don't want him. Instead he's become deeply touch starved, desperate for contact even when he only knows how to hover on the outskirts of festivals and watch most of the time. He's learned to repress the furious PTSD from his time as a soldier and prisoner, from his death, allowed himself to become more and more reserved, less and less able to touch the emotional intelligence he still has burning away in his chest.
He has made himself the perfect isolated being, and now he has to work with twelve other people. So that's good.
Appearance: Angular, relatively tall, thin but muscular, Gyre is quite typical for a wild elf. His skin was once a light golden brown with black point coloration in the middle of his face, over his ears and on the lower halves of his limbs. Now that he’s dead though, his skin has a deep purple undertone and his sclera have gone black. He has a fluffy black mohawk that he lets grow long in the back, sometimes braiding it all to keep it out of his face. He’s also got a bunch of body mods: gauged ears and a septum piercing, and thick geometric tattoos that begin on the shaved right side of his head and spread down his back and limbs.
As a general rule, he's quite pretty even for an elf and he moves with a certainty and grace that makes him easy to watch. However, he Does Not dress that way. His clothes are always run ragged and heavily layered, built for utility and function over design. The only even slightly indulgent pieces of his Look are his gold jewelry, a thick collar always around his neck and a thin gold necklace his hides under his shirt. The necklace carries the large gaudy amethyst that holds his soul so he's never without it.
Abilities or Equipment:
*knows Common, EMPland and EMPland’s rivial’s language, as well as sign language. He can also swear in basically every language on the planet.
*knows everything about everything to do with survival: hunting and dressing kills, sewing, first aid, camping skills, etc

Personal Magic:
Animals are calm and friendly towards him, much more so then they might be otherwise. While he's never had this verified in a lab or anything, it is something he's observed over time.
Knight Power:
The wizard gave him a force shield which is a bubble of hard air that he can center on any object or person. He can make it as large as he likes, but the bigger it is the more fragile it is, becoming paper thin and useless eventually. He can shape the bubble to the object or person in question but it takes constant, deep concentration.

1. How does your character introduce themselves?
He often avoids introducing himself for as long as possible with nonwild elves. When eventually forced to, it's just a clipped, “Gyre.”
2. What is their quest? Is it something they believe in?
Stopping the wizard, like all the other knights apparently. He doesn’t especially believe in it, no. He’d be absolutely fine if the wizard won because he believes that the wizard will destroy society while leaving nature and the world in general intact which he’s totally all for.
3. What is the most identifiable item of clothing they wear?
He always always always has a big collar on. While the style of the collar depends on how fancy or practical he needs to be, it's always there. If it's not, then his head is no longer attached to his body which is identifiable in a decidedly different way
6. What is their preferred way to start a fire?
He carries a matchbook with him at all times, and he can strike a spark with his nail if he has to. His actual favorite method is to relight the smoke of a recently doused fire, but that’s less practical.
7. Do strangers think of your character favorably or unfavorably?
Wild elves hold him at arm’s length because he's dead. While they'll take his help sometimes and fool around with him very occasionally, he's pushed away eventually. He often actively refuses to get along with nonwild elves which can get him in trouble. Basically it's bad all around usually.
8. What does your character think of their own reputation?

12. When tired, what do they picture as a comfortable place to rest?
Uhhh a lover's lap, their fingers in his hair, sunlight on his face through the trees. Barring that, under like twelve blankets by a fire
13. When did they conceal a love from the world?
He spent a long time deeply in love with his spouses even after he died. While it was fine for him to show at least muted affection to his kids, he couldn't really approach his family without very good cause so he pined after them from a distance
16. What is an apology your character needs to make that they have been putting off?
“It was a mistake to return here after leaving you so long to mourn. I should have passed on and left your hearts in peace.”
21. What humiliating moment from childhood plagues your character in quiet moments?
First day of public school where he was just screamed at by no less then three separate adult figures for refusing to go to class
22. Under what circumstances might your character steal a cake?
Literally just if he was hungry… If he took it from a person, he'd do chores for them or bake a return cake to make up for it. If from a business, he does not care even the tiniest bit. His stomach is more important then anyone's profit.

Peacefully and on his own terms.

Character History:
Luka was born the only son to a powerful businessman, and he grew up with the constant, nagging reminders of how hard his father worked to gain the success and wealth that his family enjoyed. It was ingrained in him at a young age that he was expected to live up to-- and ideally surpass-- his father’s success, though he had little interest in the drab world of manufacturing magitech parts that his father excelled in.
When he was just six years old, Luka lost most of his vision in an accidental magitech explosion that occurred in an industrial facility owned by his father’s company. The blast of ultraviolet light left distinctive cloudy cataracts in both his eyes, and while he would never let his blindness hold him back, he vowed that he would never again step foot in a Eutychian Industries building again.
Much to his parent’s chagrin, Luka was far more interested in the arts during his time at school. While his grades floundered in science and math, he flourished in the art studio, and was the star pupil of his school’s chorus class. And while his mother and father may have only grudgingly accepted his passion for arts, his oldest sister Maya supported him in everything he did, and taught him never to give up on his dreams.
After just barely scraping by in high school, Luka immersed himself in his home country’s rich culture, exploring the seedy underbellies and dive bar punk rock shows the nightlife had to offer. He went on to offer his vocal and guitar skills to a series of different bands, most of which he found himself forcibly excised from for reasons he cites as “creative differences”.
His talent managed to score him a record deal after he was scouted by a producer during a small, intimate performance. His first record did exceptionally well, and he rose to higher levels of fame with each subsequent release, eventually becoming a popular mainstream artist. His parents were ambivalent about his fame, and though he had managed to surpass his father’s own success, they still secretly hope he’ll return to the family business. Luka currently has no such plans.
Personality:
Luka is brash and confident, having let his fame and success get to his head a bit. He isn’t afraid to speak his mind and often refuses to back down in an argument, even if he realized he might be in the wrong somewhere along the way.
Luka can be a bit of a diva, and expects everyone to know who he is and treat him as the celebrity he’s become. He often assumes someone approaching him must be asking for an autograph.
He has little patience and doesn’t take well to being inconvenienced. Though he likes to be waited on hand and foot, a person who seems to be treating him with kids gloves due to his disability is in for an earful.
Appearance:
He is always seen in impeccable, if flamboyant, dress. He tends to wear loud jackets, often embroidered in gold or silver thread and sporting an overabundance of ruffles or lace. Typically he sports silken jewel toned garments and matching eyeshadow. He knows the importance of appearance and fashion, and aims to stand out.
He’s relatively tall at 6’2”, with a lithe and thin build (he was never one for working out, or running, or getting particularly sweaty-- at least not offstage). His skin is a golden bronze, and his typically coiffed hair a natural black, though he’s been seen with it dyed or streaked with a multitude of colors, most recently a muted turquoise.
Luka’s jaw is short and squared. He has a defined chin and full lips. His rounded nose is pierced, with a gold septum ring he rarely is seen without. His eyes were once a striking green, now scarred over with cloudy white. And, importantly, his eyebrows are on point.

Character History: Matilda is the fifth daughter of the only son of a notable inventor in her home country. Her grandfather’s company was essentially useless until the latest world war- when his goofy-steampunk style inventions actually gained purpose and usefulness across the ocean. And so, Matilda was born into a very New Money family. Her father, in attempts to keep the family relevant, took precaution in how he raised his children. Matilda was handed off to a nursemaid shortly after her birth, and aside from a consistent stream of tutors and coaches, her nurse was one of her few companions. She was much younger than most of her siblings, who all had a competitive streak.
Much to her father’s disappointment, Matilda didn’t tend to be very good at her academics or excel in sportsmanship. She was rather average in just about everything she tried, and was clumsy and chattered incessantly. One thing, though, that she was rather good at, was daydreaming. Every ounce of her free time was spent either listening to stories of epic adventure, provided to her by her loving nurse, or daydreaming about herself off on an amazing journey. As she grew older she frequently consumed television and movies about grand escapades and heroic feats. In particular, the yearly coverage of the Wizard seemed interested her-- she was active in predicting which knights might succeed and which might not, though to be honest, she always dismissed it as just another story. Matilda always knew-- or at least she hoped, very much-- that she was destined for greatness. For her own kind of epic adventure. It was through her great love of stories that she grew up cheerful and optimistic, despite her relative isolation and lack of skills.
Of course, her halcyon days could never end. When she came of a respectable age, Matilda’s nurse was dismissed, and she was shuffled off to a girl’s boarding school, and then to a ladies finishing school. At both she did not excel, nor did she fail. She learned a variety of things, though she learned more about the right shoes to wear or what flowers were in season than about mathematics or science. Surrounded by an abundance of wealth and prestige, her social growth was somewhat stunted here-- while she was cheerful and friendly and was likable to those girls that would interact with her despite her new money status, she did not spend time in the outside world. Sometimes the things she saw on tv or read about seemed confusing and difficult. To a girl who was never really good at anything, but still received everything she needed without having to work for it, the world just didn’t make sense.
After finishing school, there was little to do except follow her father and siblings whims, attending social events and trying to look pretty and keep her mouth shut. Inbetween events she spent time outside of her mansion in the town-- which is where she met her soul-mate. Or at least, Matilda thought so. Delilah, the young and troubled adventurer didn’t quite share the sentiment- but Matilda’s wallet was full and her purse stuffed with sweets (Delilah’s kryptonite), so she was more than happy to at least try and appease the energetic heiress. Matilda spent more and more time as the other young woman’s companion, trying to push her way into her band of fellow adventurers through fast talking and pushing frequent fistfulls of money towards them. It…. didn’t work out. Soon enough, Delilah and the rest of her company of adventurers were off to do something fantastic somewhere else, and Matilda was left behind.
Now, she’s stuck at an inbetween.
Personality: On the exterior, Matti is cheerful and bubbly. She will talk to just about anyone she sees- though it doesn’t take long for whoever is speaking with her to recognize that she’s just a little off. She speaks politely and eloquently but slips up every now and then-- and will sometimes say things that come off as ridiculous or just plain stupid. She’s determined and loyal- never halting in her attempts to get what she’s looking for-- even if she doesn’t quite know what she’s looking for.
She’s prone to dramatic outbursts-- alligator tears are not a strange occurance for her. Neither are bright flushes, horrified gasps, and overemphasized gestures. When she talks, her entire body moves with her-- and while her nonstop talking and drama makes it seem she has nothing to hide-- oh boyyyyyyyy.
Underneath her exterior of energy and devotion, though, lays a layer of inner contempt and dissatisfaction with her life. She’s heard that she’s not anything special her entire life, and she believes it. It’s unlikely she’ll expose this side of her willingly. Instead, she just covers it up by being even more dramatic and flamboyent. It’s working. It’s totally working.
Appearance: Matilda is naturally a petite thing- she stands at 5’4” without her heels, though she’s constantly wearing heels to make herself taller. Her skin is fair, which only makes her habit of blushing more visible. Her eyes are a bright blue, and her hair medium-brown, worn wavy and long down to the small of her back-- except for the front of her face, where she has a hime-cut framing her face. Atop her head and worn as a headband rather than for actual purpose are a pair of square-shapped goggles with rose-tinted lenses- a constant accesory except for during more formal events. She favors bold red lipsticks, and will be extremely distressed as the weeks go by and her lash extensions fall out. In terms of fashion, she favors the dramatic- high heels, fluffly and wide skirts, blouses with lace accents. She is almost never seen without white lace gloves.

Matilda knows all of the best table manners, including which tiny fork to use, and how to eat a soft boiled egg politely. If you were to ask six different people about Haizea, you’d get six different answers. Some might respond that they’ve heard of a small time gang leader on the east side of town, his name might be Isaiah? Others might say that if you’re a kid in trouble, you can go to a certain convenience store on a certain corner, ask for Aunt Z, and you’ll get whatever help you need. A generous handful of very lucky individuals remember her as the best one night stand they’ve ever had. Those in the know would recognize her on sight but not by name as that fuckin’ elf who has got a connection everywhere she goes, whose got her hand in every operation in the east side, from forgery to gambling to smuggling. Some unsavory folks would certainly remember her and her trusty brass knuckles beating the shit out of them 8 years ago after they messed with the wrong unruly teen.
And just a few know her as Zea, a street kid who came from nowhere and nothing, who formed a gang with some other teens who had no one and vowed to give everything she had to protect them. These few could tell you about how they’d all stomp around the east side, lifting wallets, taking bets on street fights and kicking the heads in of any pimp or drug dealer that tried to set up in their territory. They could tell you about how when they wanted to go straight, get out of the life, Haizea helped them do it; she paid their certification fees, helped them study for entrance exams, even wrangled them brand new identities to start fresh. One could even tell you how she put them through college! But they wouldn’t tell you, not the ones that remember her as a scrappy teen, nor the ones that came later who owe their lives just as much to her, because she’s their family and they love her. They know she needs to live on the wrong side of the law but they know she does more good than ill and so they would never snitch to anyone about her.
But if you were to ask Haizea herself, and if you were very trusted indeed, she just might tell you that she has no memory of her early childhood, she doesn’t even know if she’s a full blooded elf or not, let alone who or what her parents are. She might tell you that sometimes when she catches sight of her reflection behind her and sees the tattoo on her back, the tattoo that she’s had for as long as she can remember, it troubles her. And she’d tell you that even though she has no idea who she was, she knows who she is now and she’s proud of the life she’s built and the kids she’s raised and the family she’s made.

Personality:
Haizea’s entire demeanor can change instantly depending on the situation, to the point where if her appearance wasn’t so distinctive, you wouldn’t recognize her. She can be affable but authoritative with her gang, kind and supportive with her kids, tough as nails with her contacts, and terrifyingly dangerous to her enemies. Out on her own, she’s generally nice to anyone she comes across, she’s a regular at lots of establishments and is quite beloved. Strangers might avoid her at first due to her tough looks, and she doesn’t typically draw attention to herself if she can avoid it. She’s never actually been to school, but she’s learned a lot on the streets and she’s helped enough of her kids study for school that she feels like she’s learned the basics at least. She tends to know a little about a lot of subjects, which has helped her over time with her contacts. In general she’s really good with kids since she treats them like equals and goes out of her way to show interest in what they care about, even the sassiest teens tend to warm up to her pretty quickly. She really truly takes joy in helping the kids and teens that come to her be the best they can be and takes a lot of pride in the good she’s done.
When the situation calls for it though, she can be ruthless and amoral to accomplish her goals. She’s both the founder, first champion and current boss of an underground fighting league that rakes in tons of money every night in illegal bets. She and her gang organizes a covert smuggling ring to import and export goods while avoiding taxes and tariffs. She employs or otherwise blackmails a complex network of forgery that produces fake IDs and other paperwork, either for her own purpose or for a price to others in the know. She bribes a good section of the city’s police force, including the recently elected sheriff. And she genuinely sees nothing wrong with this. This is the sort of thing she’s good at, this is what keeps her gang members and their families fed and clothed, this is how she’s able to support all the kids that need her help, this is how she’s able to pay for college to the kids who want it. She figures that probably one day this will all come falling down around her, but to her, it’s worth it. She genuinely feels no guilt for breaking these laws and lives by her own sense of justice.
She also just like, really loves to fight. Her instinct to respond to even slight threats with violence is the number one reason why she’s never even considered leaving a life of crime, she wouldn’t last a minute in the straight world. She’s also not sure that she legally exists, and while at this point she could get herself a new identity forged pretty easily, she’s pretty comfortable leading her life the way it is. While she has a lot of assets from her various criminal enterprises, she rarely if ever spends them on herself. She lives simply, the apartment she lives in (in an abandoned building that she originally was just squatting in, but now owns through a series of forged papers and bribed officials) is fairly spartan. The only things she does for her appearance beyond basic hygiene is dye her hair and draw on her eyeliner each day. She does have a wall where she pins on any photos or cards sent to her by her kids, though.
Appearance:
She broke her nose a long time ago and often keeps a bandage over it to hide it. Her hair is actually white but she dyes it blue on the regular and shaves the left side of it to maintain her sidecut. She often wears a one piece under her short jacket and black jeans, and keeps her hair tied up with a red ribbon. She’s built as hell, very strong, but her muscles aren’t super defined because she often skimps out on cardio (she never skips leg day tho). Big boobs. Bigger heart. There’s a mole on her chin on the right side of her mouth, and she has a rarely seen tattoo on her back. Her eyes are a shade of brown so light they look yellow and her pointed ears have no less that 8 piercings in each of them. Doesn’t wear makeup aside from her winged eyeliner because she likes it.

Equipment: Has a set of brass knuckles (they’re made of steel). The red ribbon in her hair has significance to her and the earrings she wears are all fine silver.
Small ability: Fast Learning, she can pick up physical skills a bit faster than most people, provided they’re not too complex; something like computer programming wouldn’t be affected, since that’s a mental skill, a general trade like woodworking is too complex, but learning a single card trick is no problem. Honestly the more useless a skill is the easier it is for her to learn.
Knight ability: Weather control, mostly storm related. Wind is easy, rain is harder, lightning is the hardest. Stopping storms takes the most effort but the storms she causes herself tend to end quickly anyway.

Character History: Web is one of the goat-type fauns of the Island, who mostly live around the mountain. They aren't close to their parents, especially since they hate their birth name, but they were a good kid nonetheless. Other than that, though, their life was unremarkable, and after growing up, they kept to their kind's tradition and became a wandering shepherd kinda person, occasionally visiting town and trading with the locals.
Unfortunately, this did not last, as magic in the area made raising healthy, normal sheep easier said than done. When their last one spontaneously turned into a rainbow-colored stuffed toy, they decided to give up and move to the town itself, traditions be damned. After some adjustment to town life and a good deal of training, they found themselves a more stable job with the local magitech inspectors.
These days, they keep glitching, magic-influenced technology from wreaking havoc.
To put it in layman's terms, they herd roombas now.
This is actually a pretty valuable job, considering how often the Wizard's magic can glitch the technology on the island. Escaped, glitching roombas can cause a lot of trouble for local farmers, or vacuum up keys, or just spook people by turning up in places they're really not supposed to. This is where Web and their fellow inspectors come in. Web's good at finding and wrangling the blasted things; to them, it's really no different from dealing with runaway goats, and these don't randomly come back as undead skeleton abominations (or closely resembling them, anyway). They're easier to look after, too; it's just a matter of keeping them in a pen and making sure they don't get out.
...And then the rooster turned up in the roomba pen. Web was not amused.
Personality: Web is a generally easygoing person. They're friendly, though not especially outgoing, and occasionally mischievous - but never in a harmful way. They're more the type to move a plate over by half an inch when someone's not looking, or to walk up a wall just to make someone boggle. They have a whole ton of patience due to the hardships of goatherding on a magic-affected island, though they're not above getting miffed when things go wrong (goat spontaneously combusts, being called by their birth name, etc.) They don't have many deeply-held beliefs about anything, and are quick to adjust.
However, having been raised in a very isolated and rural situation, they're easily awed and overwhelmed by big cities. They're still ill at ease in loud, urban areas, and tend to wander off to be alone when it gets to be too much.
Appearance: Web stands at about five foot even, with short, tan fur covering most of their slightly chubby body. The fur is longer and shaggier both at the top of the head and starting around the waist down to a couple inches above the hooves. They don't have horns, but they do have legs like the hind legs of a goat and a short stubby tail. Their eyes (light yellow) have horizontal rectangle pupils, and they have big floppy ears.
They don't actually need clothing, but since citydwellers get a bit riled up on that topic, they wear a sleeveless green tunic that falls a bit past the hips with slits up the sides for mobility purposes.
Abilities or Equipment: Web's main ability is the unnerving, outright spooky ability to walk on vertical faces. They also have a particularly tough skull, which serves as a natural weapon.
As a knight, their ability is (per Phil's suggestion) technopathy, which means they can basically tell roombas (and other technology, I guess) to do things. Simple to slightly complex commands only, though, like "go there and stay for an hour."

Zafika was born to two humble basilisk women after years of not being able to produce a child, until almost miraculously they finally succeeded. They had a simple, but a happy childhood, their mothers caring for them and making sure they'd get to express themselves however they wished. They were taught from a young age already how to read braille, and how to survive even when they weren't able to see.
They weren't allowed to leave the house without a blindfold if they went out alone, as their family couldn't afford the special glasses that would block the power of their eyes, and for most of their young childhood they didn't understand why they had to do it, but they made sure to wear the blindfold when they left the house. They knew their eyes were supposed to paralyse people or turn them to stone, but since nothing happened with their mothers, they thought that they'd be fine with looking other people in the eyes too. So one day when they went out, they took off their blindfold and went to play with some other kids. However, it wasn't long until their passive power passed the required time of eye contact, and they ended up accidentally paralysing one of the other children, scaring the rest and themselves too.
After that incident, they made sure to wear their blindfold when they left the house, even when with one of their parents, and got very anxious around non-basilisks if they for some reason couldn't wear the blindfold.
When they were about thirteen years old, their birthmother fell severely ill, and their other mother couldn't afford the medicine or the treatment to her illness, and after few months she ended up passing away from her illness, leaving her wife to take care of Zafika on her own. They managed, but with her job not paying that much, life just got harder for them. So after they'd turned sixteen, Zafika managed to run into assassins, and decided to join them, starting their training almost immediately.
They spent the next three years of their life training to be an assassin, and at the age of nineteen they were fully trained, and started their career of killing off corrupted politicians, businessmen and the like. And every time, they sent almost all of their money they got from their work to their mother, wanting to be able to support her in their own way. They quickly gained a reputation of being able to get in and out of even heavily guarded buildings without alarms being raised, thanks to their Stone Eyes ability, but eventually, their luck ran out, and at the age of twenty four they were caught, and sentenced to a life in prison, with no chances of getting out. Or so they thought, until the snake zodiac appeared to them one day, telling them that they were one of the twelve chosen Knights who would battle the Wizard.
Personality:
Zafika is naturally quiet and reserved, and after their years of imprisonment they're not used to talking to other people. They can keep up a conversation, but unless someone approaches them first, it's very rare for them to really talk to others. They prefer to just stick to the sidelines and keep an ”eye” on everyone, and listen a bit to what everyone are talking about.
Once you get them to warm up to you however, they're very caring in their own discreet way, occasionally coming to check on you to make sure you're okay, maybe bring you some food too. They enjoy spending time with people in silence, each doing their own things but in each other's company. They don't think talking is always necessary, most of the time just being in the same space together is more than enough for them.

Zafika is relatively short for a basilisk, their height being only 5'4”, has a slim, very graceful build, accentuated by their long, slender tail extending from their lower back, and most often coiled around their leg or allowed to drape on the ground around their feet. Their body is covered in nearly black and light grey scales, as well as smooth, reptilian hide the colour of their lighter scales. The dark scales are thicker and mostly cover their back, their shoulders and the side and back of their thighs, as well as the topside of their tail. They can deflect some stronger cuts, but stabs and such can still hurt them. The lighter scales and their hide provides from very little to almost no protection from injuries, acting pretty much like human skin, though it can deflect light, accidental cuts from kitchen knives and such. The lighter scales cover their throat, chest, stomach, inner thighs and calves, parts of the undersides of their arms and the undersides of their tail, while the hide covers most of the rest of their body, like their face, hands and rest of their legs.
After their years in prison however, they're slightly malnourished, as well as bit scuffed up still, all of their injuries not having healed yet. They have bit painful abrasions on their wrists from being chained up so often, which they still have to treat and keep under bandages to not make them any worse.
They wear mostly dark clothes, and their most notable article of ”clothing” is the blindfold they wear over their eyes to avoid paralysing people on accident. Other notable things about their clothing is the extremely long sleeves they have on their shirts, as well as the small cloak they wear with a huge hood to help hide their features more. They don't wear any jewellery at all, except their birthmother's pendant they keep hanging around their neck.
Abilities or Equipment:
Minor ability: Stone Eyes. They can either paralyse people or turn them to stone. Paralysing is a passive part of their ability, and requires six seconds of eye contact, whereas they actively have to try and turn someone to stone, and the active part of their ability takes only a moment of eye contact for the victim to turn to stone. It doesn't work on non-living being, and requires the victim to be able to see too.
Knight power: Light Manipulation. They can manipulate light to make themselves invisible, or to shoot laser beams at their enemies. Their light manipulation can technically be used to create illusions, but it's harder to do and they're only visual illusions. With enough practise they could be able to make the rest of the Knights and the Princess invisible too, and to increase the time period they can keep themselves invisible to even hours at most.

When they lost one of their mothers, their surviving mother and Zafika had to figure out how to make a proper living, and Zafika started to train to become an assassin, since it paid well and they wanted to help support their mother. They had to distance themselves from everything, but secretly kept their soft spot for their mother, who is the only person they really care for in the world anymore.
25) If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?
They'll never admit it to anyone, but they would want to change their eyes to normal. They can handle not being able to see their surroundings, but they would like to be able to look at people without paralysing them all the time

Character History:
Rory was born to trolls in a cave system, and as is custom in their culture, soon replaced in a rather superstitious rural village and exchanged for a child of theirs. She was abandoned by her new set of parents for being a changeling. Lucky for her, she was still wanted in the village after all - An old couple with no children, the Honeycombs, adopted her. They didn't care about what the townspeople thought of their new daughter. Though frequently asked, no, her adoptive parents do not do beekeeping. They have lots of pumpkins and potatoes though, and many other kinds of vegetables.
Raised on the farm, she learned the value of hard work and family, and she was happy though they never had much in terms of belongings. Her days from an early age were mostly spent helping her parents around on the farm, especially since they were already past their prime.
As a child she would tell others about the omens she sensed, but they often thought she was the bad luck causing the problems to happen. To avoid being blamed, she eventually stopped sharing her omens altogether, and slowly started to ignore the feelings when they came. This was rather bad for her, since she had to deal with her anxiety all by herself, but it was what she got used to.
Because of the superstitions surrounding her, she never had many friends growing up. She wasn't harshly bullied because other kids were mostly afraid of her, but she was often excluded. This in turn made her lean on her small family even more, and since she missed out on a lot of peer interaction. She doesn't have a higher education past this world's high school equivalent, as her future plans have basically been to take over the farm after her parents are gone, and she wasn't dying to go back into a school environment where people ostracized her and she didn't do particularly well.
In her free time, she liked playing with her dog and relaxing in front of the family's ancient little TV. She watched everything Wizard Season related that she could and she adored the bravery of the knights, fantasizing about being one of them.
About a year before her knighting, her father passed away of an age-related heart attack. Rory felt the strongest omen anxiety to date prior to his passing, but didn't tell anyone as usual. She feels guilty over this, as she thinks she could have prevented it had she told. This event was a turning point in her relationship with her precognitive abilities, after which she started to try to tune into them once more and be more open about it. It's still a work in progress.
Rory never anticipated she would be chosen as a knight. She's pretty excited about it, and as in her mind it's not exactly a negative thing, she didn't get omen anxiety over it. It never felt so dire or dangerous watching it on the telly so she doesn't really know what's in store. Her mother, however, is terrified for her.
Personality:
Rory is generally positive and energetic, even in the face of adversity, but she's often secretly nervous due to her innate ability to sense omens in the form of a feeling of minor anxiety when something negative is about to happen. She tends to try to guess when she's next going to experience it, only adding to her nervousness. She hates to let her anxieties rule her life, however, so she tries her best to keep herself busy and helpful to those around her.
She's generally supportive and wants the best for others, but there have been many instances in her life when her company wasn't wanted so she never learned exactly how to socialize with her peers. She tends to be too familiar and touchy with people from the moment they first meet, and isn't the best at reading the mood. She doesn't really have an indoor voice, especially when she gets excited, and it's hard to calm her down when she's enthusiastically talking about her life. Being a person ruled by her emotions, she's also rather quick to anger, especially when dealing with villainy or cowardice, both of which she can't stand. She has been the underdog, and she will fight for others like herself.
Appearance:
Rory is taller than the average woman, and certainly taller than most anyone else in her village of sheep people, which makes her stand out like a sore thumb. She has a stocky build, with a quite flat chest and thick limbs, with large clawed hands and feet. Her dark brown skin has crackled in several places to reveal blue-black stripes that resemble lightning opal. She has a long cow-like tail with a puff of hair at the end.
Her sclera are a striking light blue, and her irises are a dark blue that looks black in dim light. She's usually seen with a big grin on her face, revealing her large set of teeth complete with fangs. Her nose is aquiline, and has one of her opal stripes across it. She has fluffy, floppy ears and thick eyebrows that are a shade darker than her wheat blonde messy hair that she keeps loosely braided. It reaches her buttocks when unbraided.
Abilities or Equipment:
Rory's innate power is Omen sensitivity - she gets seemingly no-reason anxiety before an event that she herself considers negative. The more negative the event, the worse her anxiety gets. She doesn't know what the event will be, however, and she has been out of touch with this power for quite a while now after negative experiences with sharing her feelings. (In the meta sense, I'm going to leave it up to other players to inform me that there's something Rory could get antsy about)
Rory's knight power is Roar of Courage - this power works in two ways. One, she can power up her physical attacks by shouting, the louder the better. Two, she can yell straight at enemies for a paralyzing debuff that also knocks them back a little if they're light enough. She has to be consciously thinking about it for the latter case, so she can't use both variations at he same time. Of course, the power comes with the obvious caveat of her throat hurting and the threat of temporarily losing her voice from overuse.
She's never seen without her rustic straw hat, which used to belong to her father, or her many-pouched belt. She keeps in it both important items like first aid supplies, as well as interesting things like cool rocks she finds. Specifically for the Wizard Season, she's dug up her stripy poncho and pants out of her wardrobe to match her assigned animal companion, a tiger.

Olivia was kicked out from her home when she was about fifteen, after she snapped at her parents for the way they treated her: they cared more about their reputation than they did about her, constantly nagging at her and expressing their annoyance at every little thing she did. Perhaps it was because of her strange Tiefling features, stranger still considering that both of them were completely human, or perhaps that was just the way that they were. She tried to be the perfect daughter for a long time before she finally gave up. She never shares details of what her relationship with them was truly like with anyone, the only thing she considers worth people knowing is that she is way better off away from them.
After leaving the house she’d grown up with, Olivia tried to find any place that would hire someone her age for about a year, putting her pride aside as she cycled between her few friends from high-school for a roof under her head. Not wanting to be a burden to them any longer yet unable to find a job, she eventually resorted to crime.
Using her innate powers to alter her appearance, she pick-pocketed, mugged, and robbed stores and houses until she had made enough to afford a small, one room apartment. She lived comfortably, taking what she needed any time she wanted with ease, no longer worrying about finding a real job. Not being one to crave for luxuries or plan ahead however, she would give most of her money to animal shelters rather than saving it or spending it on herself.
The Wizard’s appearance and yearly threats didn’t really affect her life in any way other than making it easier for her during the “End of the World” sales. People and stores were easier to rob during them, and the things she did feel like buying were cheaper. As for the battles themselves, she found the idea of streaming the Knight fights despicable, but she would still use her phone to tune into the radio and keep an ear on the situation.
Personality:
Having grown up under her parents’ constant pressure, Olivia is a perfectionist and it kills her that she isn't, and cannot ever be, perfect. She grew up with body dysmorphia, disliking her appearance and considering herself monstrous, wishing she had more Tiefling traits rather than human ones so she could look the part and finally feel comfortable in her own skin. She's introverted when you first meet her, but under her tough surface she's charismatic, idealistic, humorous, kind, and proud. She can be competitive and is quite resentful. She's a quick-thinker and thorough in everything she does. She's a bit cynical, her trust being something to work towards.
Appearance:
Her hair is black and goes down a bit past her shoulders, with the right side of her head shaved. Her eyes are light blue and her skin is brown. All of this, of course, is subject to constant change due to her powers. She has a long, purpleish tail that she usually wraps around her waist to hide when she's out and about. Her pupils act like a feline’s, reacting to light and things that pique her interest in a way she can't disguise.
She’s about 5’10” and her build is slightly pear-shaped. She prefers to wear dark clothes that help her blend in, both for comfort and her line of work. (Her face claim is Sofia Boutella.)

It would depend on their own personality. She’s quiet around people she’s not familiar with, and can come across as rude since she’s not likely to answer unless directly addressed.

Being chosen by the Wizard was just about the worst possible thing that could’ve happened to her. She’s happiest and feels safest in anonymity, a.k.a. when she doesn't have a reputation - the minor celebrity status that came with being one of the Twelve Knights nearly sent her into a shock. She’s likely to attack any of the other Knights she catches filming her.
She is, naturally, worried that she won't be good enough for what fighting the Wizard entails but, she's also terrified that the fame that comes with being chosen will make her parents want to contact her… or that it won't.
9. Who taught them how to understand love?
Having been rejected by her parents, she has yet to learn this.

Her tiny apartment. It’s cozy and safe.
